Law enforcement agencies in Nigeria continue to crack down on property crimes and local theft rings, ensuring that perpetrators face the full weight of the law. In a recent development reported by major news publications, the Cross River State Police Command successfully apprehended a young man involved in suspicious criminal activities. The prompt action taken by local security operatives highlights ongoing efforts to protect citizens' properties and curb vehicular and motorcycle thefts across various communities in the state.

According to official reports released by the police authorities, the incident unfolded when operatives attached to the Ekori Police Division in Yakurr Local Government Area swung into action. They arrested a 22-year-old individual identified as Ason Onen Usang, who hails from the neighboring Abi Local Government Area. The suspect was taken into custody at about 9:00 p.m. after intelligence and routine checks flagged his suspicious behavior. At the time of his arrest, he was actively trying to sell an unregistered Dayang motorcycle.

Upon further inspection by the police, the recovered motorcycle bore specific identification markers, including Chassis Number LKIPCKL10M1086477 and Engine Number DY156EMI7133995. Preliminary findings indicate that the vehicle is strongly suspected to have been stolen from the Ikom Local Government Area before being brought over to Yakurr for quick disposal. When interrogated by investigators regarding how he came into possession of the bike, the suspect claimed he purchased it from an unknown individual. However, he failed to provide any valid purchase receipts, the identity of the seller, or any verifiable documentation to prove a legitimate transaction.

Given the lack of documentation and the suspicious nature of the transaction, the suspect was immediately detained. Police investigators are currently working around the clock to unravel the full network behind the operation. Their primary objectives include tracking down the person who allegedly sold the bike to the suspect, identifying other potential accomplices involved in the theft ring, and locating the rightful owner of the recovered property.

The command has also issued a public appeal to members of the communities, requesting anyone who recognizes the motorcycle or has relevant information to step forward and assist with the investigation.

Citizens can reach out through designated police contact numbers or visit the nearest police station. The Cross River State Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has reiterated the command's firm stance against all forms of property crime. He assured the public that once comprehensive investigations are fully concluded, the suspect alongside any other culpable individuals will be charged to court to face appropriate legal penalties.
