Desmond Elliot Apologises to Femi Gbajabiamila and Seeks Reconciliation Over APC Primary Actions

By Faith Eze

The political landscape in Lagos State has witnessed a dramatic moment of remorse as lawmaker and Nollywood actor Desmond Elliot publicly sought reconciliation with his political mentor, Femi Gbajabiamila, who currently serves as the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu. In a development that has quickly generated widespread public discussion across news platforms and social media channels, Elliot was captured on video expressing deep regret and pleading for forgiveness regarding past political actions and friction that occurred during the handling of the ruling All Progressives Congress primary elections.

The tension between the two political figures largely stems from disagreements and intense rivalries surrounding party processes. During the primary contest for the Surulere Constituency I seat, deep divisions emerged within the party hierarchy. Elliot had previously encountered challenges and friction within the system, leading to a strained relationship with key stakeholders and leadership figures within the party. Furthermore, the political fallout extended into broader legislative dynamics in the state, with previous ripples touching high-ranking national offices. Recognizing the weight of the division, the lawmaker chose the path of humility to mend fences with his long-standing political leader.

In the circulating video footage, Elliot can be seen openly demonstrating remorse, acknowledging that he had no excuses for any unintended disrespect or friction caused during the heated political engagements. Embracing traditional values of respect and reconciliation, he addressed Gbajabiamila respectfully, noting that he grew up learning the rudiments of politics under his direct tutelage and guidance. He emphasized that any misunderstandings were completely unintentional and reiterated his unwavering commitment to maintaining party unity, strengthening grassroots structures, and driving development forward within his constituency.

Gbajabiamila, acknowledging the public display of remorse, responded calmly and urged the lawmaker to rise, signaling a willingness to put past grievances behind them. Political observers have noted that this move toward reconciliation is a crucial step for internal peace within the ruling party in Lagos, especially as leaders work cohesively to build a united front ahead of future political cycles. By stepping forward to publicly clear the air, Elliot has shown a strong desire to restore his political alignment and focus fully on serving the people who elected him.
