Enugu Onitsha Expressway: Minister Umahi Urges Contractors to Work Faster

The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, recently visited the Enugu Onitsha Expressway to check how far the road construction has gone. During his visit, he expressed his disappointment over the slow pace of work and warned the contractors to speed up or face serious consequences.

The Enugu Onitsha Expressway is one of the most important roads in Nigeria. It connects the South East to the South West, and many people use it every day for business, travel, and transportation of goods.

But for many years, the road has been in a very bad condition, making traveling  difficult and dangerous. Drivers face traffic, potholes, and sometimes accidents. That’s why the federal government started a reconstruction project to make the road better and safer for everyone.

When Senator Umahi visited the site, he was not happy with the speed of the construction. He said:

"The work is too slow. We gave them money and support, but progress is poor. Nigerians are tired of bad roads. The contractors must work faster."

He also said that the ministry will not allow any contractor to delay the project unnecessarily. He promised that the government will take action if work does not improve quickly.

Eke Obinagu Flyover Also Inspected

Apart from the expressway, Senator Umahi also inspected the Eke Obinagu Flyover, another major project in Enugu. This flyover is expected to reduce traffic, especially around busy market areas and junctions.

He told the engineers and contractors at the site to speed up the work and make sure it is finished on time. He also emphasized that the quality of the work must be very high, because the flyover will serve thousands of people daily.

After the inspection, the Minister said:

  • The ministry will monitor the contractors more closely

  • Any company that is not serious will be removed from the project

  • He will continue visiting sites across Nigeria to check road works

This means that the government is now taking the issue of roads more seriously and wants quick and quality results.

Many people in Enugu and Anambra states have complained about the bad condition of the Enugu Onitsha road. They say:

  • It increases transportation  costs

  • It damages vehicles

  • It causes long traffic and delays

  • It affects businesses

So they are happy that the Minister is visiting and showing concern. However, they want real results and not just visits. They hope the road will be completed soon so they can travel easily and safely.

 conclusion

The visit by Senator David Umahi to the Enugu Onitsha Expressway shows that the government is watching what contractors are doing. Roads are very important for development, business, and safety.

People of Enugu, Onitsha, and other users of this road are hoping that with more pressure from the federal government, the road will be completed quickly and properly.

Let us continue to hope and demand that the work gets done, and done well.
