Enugu State Government Begins Electric Car Assembly Project in Owo Community

The Enugu State Government has officially started an electric car assembly project in Owo community, located in Nkanu East Local Government Area. This is part of the government's efforts to promote clean energy and create new jobs in the state.

Speaking during the launch, Governor Peter Mbah said the project is a major step toward modern transportation and reducing pollution caused by fuel-powered vehicles. He added that electric cars will help people save money and protect the environment. This electric car assembly project is a major achievement for Enugu State. It shows that the government is serious about charging and tech support. 

In addition, a mobile app is being developed to help people easily book rides, locate charging stations, and get real-time updates from the government.

  • Bringing development to rural areas


With these efforts, Enugu is set to become a leading center for innovation, green technology, and digital transformation in Nigeria.

 Electric cars that will be used as taxis and public transport across the state. The government plans to roll out the first set of vehicles in early 2026.

Community members in Owo welcomed the project with excitement, saying it will bring development and opportunities to the area.

Commissioner for Transport, Obi Ozor, also explained that the government is working on charging stations, driver training, and mobile apps that will make it easy to use the electric cars.

This project is part of a larger plan to modernize Enugu’s transportation system, including hybrid buses, solar powered stations, and a new Ministry of Energy to support green technology.

With this great achievement, Enugu became one of the first states in Nigeria to build and use electric cars locally, Charging Stations and Tech Support.

As part of the project, the government is also setting up solar-powered charging stations in different parts of the state. The first of such stations was recently opened at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) to encourage the use of electric vehicles among students and staff.

In addition, a mobile app is being developed to help people easily book rides, locate charging stations, and get real time updates from the government.
