The security situation in Plateau State has suffered another major setback following the tragic killing of three local vigilantes during a night attack by armed men. The violent incident occurred around 11 p.m. when suspected gunmen stormed the community under the cover of darkness. The attackers reportedly targeted a local security post where the guards were keeping watch to protect residents and properties from harm.
According to local sources, the sudden assault threw the entire neighborhood into profound panic and shock. Gabriel Ayuba, a local resident who spoke to reporters about the unfortunate event, expressed deep sorrow over the loss. He noted that the victims were merely carrying out voluntary security duties to keep their families and neighbors safe when they were ambushed and shot by the ruthless assailants.
Community leaders and youth groups have strongly condemned the recurring pattern of violence targeting local security volunteers across the region. The spokesperson for the Berom Youth Moulders, Rwang Tengwong, officially confirmed the incident and described the killings as completely unfortunate and heartbreaking. He emphasized that local security volunteers should not be left vulnerable while sacrificing their lives and time to safeguard rural populations.
In his reaction, Tengwong urgently called on federal and state security agencies to step up patrol routines and adopt proactive measures to curb the rising wave of criminal attacks. He noted that residents cannot continue to live in constant fear while those trying to defend them are brutally gunned down. Furthermore, community stakeholders are urging security operatives to launch a thorough investigation, track down the perpetrators, and bring everyone involved to justice. Residents have also been advised to remain extra vigilant, maintain community watch networks, and report any suspicious movements immediately to the appropriate authorities.
