The Action Peoples Party (APP) is strengthening its position ahead of the 2027 general elections following the defection of three federal lawmakers from Imo, Abia and Rivers States.
The group comprises two serving members of the House of Representatives and a former federal legislator, all of whom have joined the APP and secured the party’s tickets to contest the 2027 House of Representatives elections in their respective constituencies.
The lawmakers are Boma Goodhead, who represents Akuku-Toru/Asari-Toru Federal Constituency of Rivers State; Alozie Munachim Ikechi, representing Obingwa/Ugwunagbo/Osisioma Federal Constituency of Abia State; and former lawmaker Uju Kingsley Chima, who previously represented Oguta/Ohaji-Egbema/Oru West Federal Constituency of Imo State.
Goodhead is set to seek another term in the House on the APP platform after securing the party’s nomination for the Rivers constituency.
Similarly, Ikechi has emerged as the APP candidate for Obingwa/Ugwunagbo/Osisioma Federal Constituency in Abia State ahead of the 2027 poll.
Chima, who previously served in the House representing Oguta/Ohaji-Egbema/Oru West, has also defected to the APP and will fly the party’s flag in the constituency.
The movement of the three politicians is seen as a boost for the APP as it seeks to broaden its reach ahead of the 2027 elections and attract politicians with legislative and electoral experience.
Their entry also adds to the party’s growing presence in the South-East and South-South geopolitical zones, where the APP is seeking to expand its political influence.
The development could further position the party as one of the emerging alternatives to Nigeria’s established political parties as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
