The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has taken steps to improve the technical capabilities of researchers in Nigeria’s energy sector by providing specialised training for 32 lecturers and postgraduate students from universities across the South-East.
The participants benefited from a professional development workshop hosted by the PTDF Professorial Chair in Petroleum Geology at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
The programme focused on advanced geophysical exploration methods, including the collection, processing and interpretation of subsurface data used in petroleum exploration and development.
Training Focuses on Modern Exploration Methods
The workshop was held under the theme, “High Resolution Geophysical Exploration Techniques: Data Acquisition, Processing and Interpretation.”
It was designed to expose participants to modern technologies and techniques that can improve their understanding of geological formations beneath the earth’s surface.
Addressing the gathering, PTDF Executive Secretary, Prof. Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu, highlighted the growing importance of specialised knowledge in the petroleum and energy industries.
Represented by the organisation’s Director/Manager of Research and Development, Favour Adaure-Prince, the executive secretary said the PTDF remained committed to helping universities develop the expertise needed to support Nigeria’s energy development.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the training by exchanging ideas, expanding their knowledge and establishing professional relationships that could lead to future research collaborations.
UNN Don Charges Scholars to Put Skills into Practice
Prof. Olusola Ojo, the Chair Professor at the event, disclosed that the 32 participants came from federal, state and private universities across the South-East.
He urged the lecturers and postgraduate students to ensure that the knowledge acquired during the workshop translates into meaningful improvements in teaching and research.
Ojo also challenged them to use their new skills to develop practical solutions to challenges affecting the petroleum industry.
The training forms part of broader efforts to strengthen research capacity in Nigerian universities and prepare more professionals to contribute to technological advancement in the energy sector.
