Six Nigerian Law School Students Regain Freedom After Kidnapping in Benue

Six students from the Nigerian Law School, Yola campus, who were kidnapped while traveling from Anambra State to Adamawa State, have been rescued and reunited with their families.

The news was confirmed by the Benue State Police Command in a statement released on Friday by its spokesperson, SP Udeme Edet.

“We are pleased to inform the public that the police have successfully rescued the six law students who were abducted on July 26, 2025. They have now safely returned to their families as of this morning, August 1,” the statement read.

The students were reportedly kidnapped near the Benue Taraba border.

According to police sources, the kidnappers had demanded a ₦120 million ransom and threatened to kill the students if the demand wasn’t met. However, it has not been confirmed whether any ransom was paid before their release.

The kidnapping sparked widespread outrage on social media and led to renewed calls for better security measures on Nigeria’s highways, particularly in Benue State, where incidents of kidnapping and bandit attacks have become increasingly common.
