Enugu CP Holds Supervisory Officers Responsible for Subordinates’ Misconduct

By Isaac Mission

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Giwa, has declared that supervisory officers will now be held accountable for acts of misconduct and unprofessional behaviour committed by officers serving under their supervision.

The directive was announced during the Enugu State Police Command's monthly strategic conference held on Thursday at the Senior Police Officers' Mess along Agbani Road, Enugu. The meeting brought together senior police officers to review security operations and reinforce professional standards across the command.

According to Giwa, area commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and other supervising officers must strengthen command, discipline, and operational oversight within their respective areas. He explained that the decision aligns with recent directives issued by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun's successor, IGP Olatunji Disu, during a strategic conference with senior police officers.

The police commissioner stressed that integrity and professionalism must remain the foundation of policing, warning that corruption, extortion, abuse of office, and violations of citizens' rights would no longer be tolerated.

He emphasized that supervisory officers would bear responsibility where junior officers engage in misconduct under their watch, urging commanders to ensure strict compliance with ethical standards.

Giwa also instructed operational commanders, including area commanders, DPOs, the Distress Response Squad (DRS), and the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), to sustain visible policing and intensify operations against criminal elements across the state.

He further directed intelligence officers to strengthen intelligence gathering and information sharing to improve crime prevention and support security operations throughout Enugu State.

The strategic conference was attended by Deputy Commissioners of Police, Assistant Commissioners of Police, area commanders, heads of departments, unit commanders, and other senior officers. The session also featured professional training presentations aimed at improving investigative capacity and operational effectiveness within the command.
