The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Nkanu West State House of Assembly seat in the 2027 election, Ifeanyi Nnamani, has expressed confidence that Governor Peter Mbah’s record in office will give APC candidates a major advantage at the polls.
Nnamani said the governor’s performance across key sectors had strengthened the party’s position in Enugu State and increased its appeal among residents.
Speaking during a media interaction, the Nkanu West candidate described Mbah’s administration as highly successful, arguing that the governor’s achievements had helped reposition the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said his own campaign would focus on securing effective representation for the people of Nkanu West, with priorities including healthcare, education, agriculture and social intervention programmes.
Nnamani said his experience in business, labour activities and community charity had given him a clear understanding of the challenges facing ordinary residents. He promised to use the opportunity of a legislative position to advocate for solutions to those challenges.
While acknowledging that lawmaking is the primary responsibility of legislators, he said effective representation also involves engaging government agencies, negotiating with the executive and using oversight powers to attract development to a constituency.
He explained that his proposed four-point agenda would be pursued through legislative proposals, motions, oversight activities and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
The APC candidate also highlighted his long-standing involvement in charitable activities, including free medical outreaches which he said he had organised for more than 10 years. He pledged to continue supporting initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of residents.
Nnamani praised the state government’s healthcare initiatives and said his proposed constituency-level programmes would complement existing efforts by bringing medical support closer to people at the grassroots.
He also identified landlord-tenant disputes as an issue he intends to address if elected. According to him, he would pursue legislative action aimed at protecting the interests of both property owners and tenants.
On his relationship with Governor Mbah, Nnamani said working with the executive would not compromise his constitutional duty as a legislator. He stressed that cooperation and oversight could operate together, particularly in ensuring that approved budgets are properly implemented.
Despite Nkanu West’s historical support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nnamani said the political landscape was changing, with voters increasingly paying attention to individual candidates and their records rather than party affiliation alone.
He credited Governor Mbah with helping to improve the APC’s standing in the state and described the governor as a key factor in the party’s strategy for the 2027 election.
Nnamani appealed to voters in Nkanu West to remain focused and support the APC, promising to establish an accessible constituency office where residents could present their concerns and seek assistance.
He also expressed optimism about APC’s chances in Enugu State and predicted that President Bola Tinubu would make significant gains for the party in the state during the 2027 elections.
