The 2026 August Meeting in Enugu State brought together thousands of women from across Nigeria and the diaspora on August 8, as communities celebrated Igbo culture, unity and the contributions of women to community development.
Amstel Malta was among the brands that supported this year’s gathering, reinforcing its longstanding association with the annual homecoming and using the occasion to celebrate women while contributing to initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods.
The event attracted notable personalities, including the First Lady of Enugu State, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah, and the Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Ngozi Enyi.
Speaking at the event, Joy Egolum, Corporate Affairs Manager, East, Nigerian Breweries Plc, said the company’s involvement was driven by its desire to identify with the communities and consumers it serves.
She noted that the August Meeting provides an important platform for recognising the resilience and contributions of women, adding that Nigerian Breweries remains committed to working with its consumers, customers and other stakeholders.
Beyond supporting the cultural celebration, Amstel Malta partnered with the Enugu State Government on a women’s empowerment initiative focused on strengthening small businesses.
As part of the programme, two female entrepreneurs, representing different senatorial zones in the state, received grants to support the expansion and sustainability of their businesses.
Senior Brand Manager, Amstel Malta, Francis Obiajulu, explained that the initiative aligns with the brand’s “Be Your Best” campaign, which promotes resilience, personal growth and the pursuit of excellence.
According to him, the values represented by the August Meeting — including community, commitment and resilience — closely reflect the principles behind the campaign.
Obiajulu added that the brand’s support was designed to extend beyond providing refreshments at the event, with the empowerment programme offering practical assistance to women working to grow their businesses.
This year’s participation therefore combined cultural celebration with community support, as Amstel Malta sought to create experiences that reflected Igbo heritage while contributing to the economic aspirations of women in Enugu State.
The initiative underscores the growing role of corporate organisations in supporting community traditions while creating opportunities that can have a lasting impact on beneficiaries and their communities.
