Nwifuru: No Serious Challenger to My 2027 Re-election Bid

By Isaac Mission

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has expressed confidence in securing another term in office, declaring that he does not see any candidate capable of defeating him in the 2027 governorship election.
Nwifuru made the statement on Saturday during the grand finale of the new yam festival in Amagu, the ancestral home of the Izzi clan in Abakaliki Local Government Area.
The governor is expected to face competition from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Chief Ifeanyi Odii in next year’s election.
However, Nwifuru attributed his confidence to what he described as the impact of his administration across the state’s 13 local government areas.
He recalled that the All Progressives Congress (APC) won 10 local government areas during the 2023 governorship election, predicting that the party would secure victory in all 13 areas in 2027.
According to him, the government’s investments in roads, infrastructure and security have contributed to improved living conditions for residents.
Nwifuru told the gathering that his administration had executed road projects in every local government area, including previously untarred routes. He particularly cited Ebonyi Local Government Area, where he said more than 100 kilometres of roads had been constructed.
On security, the governor said residents were able to move freely during the day and night without major security concerns, which he presented as another achievement of his administration.
He also challenged members of the Izzi clan who may be considering contesting the governorship election on opposition platforms, insisting that the APC would retain control of the state.
Nwifuru, who described himself as the political leader of Ebonyi State, further predicted victory for APC candidates across the various elective positions in the 2027 elections.
He said the party would work to ensure that none of its candidates, from the State House of Assembly to the governorship level, suffered defeat at the polls.
The governor's remarks come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties and prospective candidates positioning themselves for the contest.
