Navy Rescues 13 Kidnap Victims, Arrests Six Suspected Drug Dealers

The Nigerian Navy has reported major breakthroughs in its recent operations in Kogi and Rivers states, with 13 kidnapped victims rescued and six suspected drug dealers arrested in separate security operations.

In Kogi State, naval personnel, working alongside troops of the Nigerian Army, officers of the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes, rescued 13 victims along the Itobe–Anyigba Highway in Ofu Local Council on August 10.

The operation was launched following a kidnapping incident reported along the highway. The rescued victims were subsequently transferred to the appropriate security authorities for screening and further support.

Security personnel encountered resistance from the suspected kidnappers during the operation. A vigilante member was killed in the confrontation, while a police officer suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to a medical facility for treatment.

Following the incident, security agencies intensified their presence in the area and continued efforts to locate and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Meanwhile, in Rivers State, six individuals suspected of dealing in illicit drugs were arrested during an intelligence-led operation in Amahausa, Bonny Local Council.

The operation was conducted by personnel of the Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base Bonny in partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Bonny Area Command.

Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, said several suspected illicit substances were recovered during the raid.

The seized items included 250 tablets of Exol 5, 117 wraps of Cannabis sativa, 50 wraps of methamphetamine, 70 wraps of heroin, eight 100mg Tramadol capsules, three packs of Cannabis sativa and a pipe allegedly used for consuming methamphetamine.

Folorunsho said the outcomes of the two operations highlighted the value of timely intelligence, rapid deployment and cooperation between security agencies.

He added that the Navy would continue working to restrict the activities of criminal networks, protect communities and contribute to wider efforts to improve security across Nigeria, including its maritime areas.
