Sokoto State Government Shuts Down Lukuwa Jumuat Mosque Following Cleric Stabbing and Mob Killing

The Sokoto State Government has taken decisive action by ordering the immediate closure of the Musa Lukuwa Jumuat Mosque located in the Mabera area of Sokoto metropolis. This development comes in the wake of a violent security breach where a prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Musa Lukuwa, was stabbed inside the place of worship, and his alleged attacker was subsequently killed by angry worshippers.

According to reports, the incident occurred shortly after the Jumuat congregational prayers.
The cleric was reportedly attacked and sustained injuries before being rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, chaotic scenes unfolded as people at the scene overpowered the assailant, leading to his death through mob action before security operatives could intervene.

In response to the growing tension and security concerns surrounding the event, government authorities have designated the mosque building as an active crime scene and sealed it off until further notice. To ensure thorough oversight, the state government has also constituted a special investigative committee made up of respected Islamic scholars and ulamas. This panel has been tasked with examining both the immediate and remote causes of the religious tensions that triggered the violent clash, as well as providing professional advice on preventive measures to maintain peace and order across the state.

Furthermore, government representatives have used the opportunity to address the public regarding respect for religious figures and peaceful coexistence. The administration clearly dissociated itself from any individual who uses the guise of religion to promote disrespect or undermine sacred personalities. Citizens have been strongly advised to avoid making inciting remarks that could worsen public safety or trigger further unrest.

Authorities have assured residents that security measures are firmly in place to protect lives and property throughout Sokoto State. Members of the public are urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant while security agencies and the newly formed scholar committee continue with their comprehensive investigations.
