President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, are among prominent figures expected to headline the 19th Annual Banking and Finance Conference organised by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN).

The organisers also announced that the World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Matthew Verghis, will deliver the keynote address at the conference, which is scheduled to take place in Abuja with virtual participation available to stakeholders in Nigeria and around the world.

The announcement was made during a media briefing in Lagos by the President and Chairman of Council of CIBN, Dr. Dele Alabi.

Alabi said the conference was particularly relevant given the significant technological, economic and geopolitical changes currently reshaping the global financial system.

He explained that the event would bring together major stakeholders to assess emerging challenges and opportunities in the banking and financial services sector, while developing practical strategies to strengthen Nigeria’s economy.

According to him, financial systems around the world are facing a combination of technological disruption, geopolitical uncertainty, changing customer expectations, cybersecurity threats and climate-related risks.

He noted that these developments had made resilience increasingly important to the stability and success of financial institutions and economies.

“Resilience has become the defining attribute of successful financial systems and economies,” Alabi said.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Consultative Committee on the CIBN 19th Annual Banking and Finance Conference, Moruf Oseni, said the gathering would provide an opportunity for industry stakeholders to examine pressing issues affecting the financial services sector.

Oseni said discussions at the conference would focus on developing practical responses to the challenges confronting the industry and identifying opportunities that could support sustainable growth.

The participation of senior government officials, financial regulators, international development experts and banking industry leaders is expected to make the conference a major platform for discussions on the future of Nigeria’s financial sector amid rapidly changing global economic conditions.
