ESWAMA Targets Unpaid Waste Fees from 2023 to 2025
The Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA) has started sending court summons to people who have not paid their waste management fees for the years 2023, 2024, and 2025.
According to Mr. Joshua Ozioko, ESWAMA’s Head of Public Relations, the summons applies to all property owners and tenants across Enugu State.
In a statement released on Sunday, July 27, 2025, in Enugu, Ozioko warned that people must act quickly to avoid appearing in court.
He explained that once a court summons is posted on a building, the owner or occupant must appear before the Environmental Protection Court located at the New Magistrate Court Complex, State Secretariat, Enugu, on the given date.
He also noted that not showing up in court is a crime that can lead to a fine or jail time, and enforcement will follow for those who ignore the notice.
Ozioko added that ESWAMA is committed to keeping Enugu clean and healthy, and this action is part of the agency’s effort to promote public hygiene and protect the environment.
