A man in Onitsha, Anambra State, has recounted the disturbing circumstances that allegedly led to the arrest of his wife over the suspected sexual abuse of their underage daughter.
The man, Ikechukwu Onyeanyusi, said he became aware of the alleged incident after a friend showed him a video purportedly showing his wife engaging in sexual abuse of their child.
According to him, he was returning from his business on Thursday evening when the friend contacted him and showed him the video.
Onyeanyusi said he was initially shocked and struggled to believe what he was seeing, prompting him to question whether the footage was genuine.
He subsequently confronted his wife about the video. He said she denied the allegation and claimed the footage had been created using artificial intelligence.
The man said he later returned to his friend to ask whether the video could indeed have been AI-generated.
However, police officers reportedly arrived at their residence shortly afterwards. He said the officers searched the premises before taking his wife into custody.
Onyeanyusi further disclosed that his wife later admitted to the allegation while being questioned at the police station.
He said the admission left him devastated, particularly because the allegation involved their daughter.
The Anambra State Police Command had earlier announced the arrest of 36-year-old Anulika Onyeanusia on September 10 following what it described as open-source intelligence concerning a viral video allegedly depicting the sexual abuse of a minor.
Police also said four children, aged two, three, six and nine, were rescued during the operation.
Items believed to be relevant to the investigation were reportedly recovered from the residence in Onitsha.
The police said the suspect remained in custody as investigators continued efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and determine whether other individuals were involved.
In a separate police questioning video, Onyeanusia was reportedly questioned over allegations relating to the production and publication of material involving her daughter for financial gain. She reportedly attributed her actions to the devil and appealed for forgiveness, while maintaining that her husband had no knowledge of the alleged activities.
The police have yet to announce the conclusion of the investigation or disclose whether formal charges have been filed against the suspect.
Onyeanyusi said he decided to speak publicly because he wanted people to understand how he discovered the allegation and the events that followed.
