Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has highlighted the achievements of his administration over the past 39 months as part of his case for a second term in office in 2027.

Mbah, who is seeking a renewed mandate from the people of Enugu State, presented a compendium documenting what his administration described as more than 10,000 milestone achievements since assuming office in May 2023.

The document, titled “A Thousand and One Reasons Why Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah Should be Re-elected as Governor of Enugu State,” was unveiled at the International Conference Centre in Enugu.

The governor said the record of achievements demonstrated the impact of his administration’s policies, programmes and infrastructure projects across the state, maintaining that Enugu was steadily moving towards becoming one of Nigeria’s leading states.

Among the projects highlighted in the 222-page document were the construction and rehabilitation of more than 1,521 kilometres of roads, over 7,000 classrooms and 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres.

The administration also listed the establishment of Enugu Air, the rehabilitation of previously inactive government assets and the ongoing development of the New Enugu Smart City among its major accomplishments.

Mbah, who was represented at the event by Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai, described the compendium as part of the administration’s commitment to accountability and transparency under the Citizens Charter, also known as Executive Order 001.

According to him, the order was introduced immediately after his inauguration on May 29, 2023, as a framework for tracking the government’s commitments and ensuring that public resources were managed responsibly.

However, the governor explained that the publication did not capture every project and achievement recorded by his administration because the compilation had a cut-off period several months before its unveiling.

He said the document therefore represented only a portion of the administration’s achievements as of September 9, 2026.

Mbah said the purpose of the presentation went beyond showcasing projects, stressing that it was also an opportunity to account for the responsibility entrusted to his administration by the people of Enugu.

He acknowledged that some of the government’s reforms and policy decisions had resulted in hardship or disruption for certain individuals and businesses.

The governor appealed to those affected by such measures to understand that the decisions were taken as part of broader efforts to reposition the state and achieve long-term development.

“Our intentions are noble,” Mbah said, explaining that the administration’s objective was to place Enugu on an irreversible path of growth and development.

He further expressed optimism that Enugu could develop into a $30 billion economy and become a major destination for investment, business, tourism and residential living.

Mbah also thanked supporters who stood by his administration despite the political changes and challenges that accompanied his decision to change political parties.

Earlier, the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, outlined some of the administration’s broader reforms, including urban renewal, development of the New Enugu Smart City, environmental initiatives and improvements in public financial management.

He said the state had strengthened its fiscal system through revenue automation, reforms at the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service, the Treasury Single Account, enterprise resource planning and institutional restructuring.

Onyia added that the government had continued to invest in youth empowerment, women's development, technology, skills acquisition, social protection, tourism and community development.

He stressed that the administration’s development agenda was ultimately centred on improving the quality of life of residents.

The governor’s performance record also attracted commendations from several stakeholders at the event.

The Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Ben Nwoye, praised the scale of development projects executed by the administration.

The Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Uchenna Ugwu, also commended the governor’s performance and pledged continued legislative support.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, Igwe Samuel Asadu, urged residents to support what he described as a performing administration.

Asadu said the governor’s ambition of growing Enugu into a $30 billion economy should be supported, arguing that competence and performance should take precedence over political considerations.

The event brought together political leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, business executives, professionals, public servants and other stakeholders who assessed the administration’s performance and development agenda.
