Nigeria’s Enugu Air is close to receiving its full operating license, known as an Air Operator Certificate (AOC), as the airline completes the final stage of its certification process.
The airline, owned by the Enugu State Government, is currently operating through a partnership with XEJet while it works toward getting its own license.
Recent reports show that the airline is expanding quickly as it prepares for full operations. By March 2026, Enugu Air had increased its fleet to six aircraft, with plans to grow to about 20 aircraft before the end of 2026.
The airline is expected to operate mainly from Akanu Ibiam International Airport, which is currently undergoing major upgrades. The airport is being improved with new infrastructure and a cargo terminal to support increased passenger and cargo flights. The project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026.
In the beginning, Enugu Air plans to operate flights along the busy “golden triangle” routes connecting Enugu, Abuja, and Lagos. The airline also plans to expand its services to other African countries in the future.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has already granted interim approval that allows the airline to operate while it completes the final steps required to obtain its full air operator certificate.
Industry observers say the certification will allow Enugu Air to operate independently and expand its services across Nigeria and beyond.
