NDC appoints SKC Ogbonnia as Enugu State leader

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed Nigerian-American businessman, Dr. SKC Ogbonnia, as the new leader of the party in Enugu State.

Ogbonnia’s appointment was announced after an expanded meeting of the Enugu State executive committee held in the state on Saturday.

The party’s state secretary, Dr. Sebastine Chukwuebuka Okafor, confirmed the development in a statement issued to journalists.

According to Okafor, the decision was based on Ogbonnia’s contributions to the development of the NDC in the state, as well as his support for the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

He said the new leadership structure was designed to improve coordination within the party and provide stronger direction as the NDC prepares for forthcoming political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

Okafor described Ogbonnia as a committed party member whose experience in business, academia and public affairs would be valuable to the NDC’s growth in Enugu.

He expressed confidence that the appointment would help strengthen the party’s chances at the polls.

“The party is focused on building a united structure that will work collectively towards electoral victory, which is why it was created in the first instance,” Okafor said.

He called on party members and supporters across the state to rally behind the new leadership, stressing the importance of unity, discipline and shared responsibility.

Okafor added that the NDC remained committed to providing Nigerians with a credible political alternative and building a platform capable of delivering the change the people desire.

Meanwhile, the Enugu State chairman of the party, Dr. Johnpaul Anih, praised the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, and National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, for their efforts to strengthen unity within the NDC.

Anih said the state chapter would continue to mobilise members and supporters while working to expand and consolidate the party’s structures across Enugu State.

He expressed optimism that the strengthened leadership structure would position the party for greater political participation and success ahead of the 2027 elections.
