Food Donations and More Bring Hope to Nsukka
Nollywood actress and philanthropist Rachael Okonkwo, popularly known as Nkoli Nwa Nsukka, has successfully concluded the 8th edition of her annual Nkoli Mega Carnival, combining entertainment with a major humanitarian outreach in Nsukka, Enugu State.
The Season 8 edition, held at the Nsukka Central Stadium on Sunday, August 30, 2026, featured a major free medical outreach carried out in partnership with the US-based Franklin Junior Foundation.
The humanitarian initiative provided free healthcare to thousands of residents, with reports indicating that more than 5,000 patients had received medical attention since the commencement of the outreach. The Franklin Junior Foundation also provided medications, wheelchairs and walking aids to beneficiaries.
Beyond healthcare, the carnival provided significant support to vulnerable members of the community. About 500 widows received food items, with the donations reportedly including 500 bags of 10kg rice, 500 cartons of tomato paste, noodles and other relief materials. School bags and children’s clothing were also distributed.
The initiative also featured support for children and young people, including school-related supplies, gifts and youth empowerment opportunities.
Speaking about the initiative, Okonkwo said her personal experience growing up with hardship inspired her desire to give back to society and support people facing similar challenges.
She explained that the carnival was established to create opportunities and bring hope to young people, children, widows and other vulnerable members of society. The programme was suspended in 2023 because of rising costs but was revived in 2026.
This year’s edition was particularly significant because it marked the first time the Mega Carnival featured a large-scale medical outreach.
Okonkwo expressed appreciation to the Franklin Junior Foundation for partnering with her to provide free healthcare to residents of Nsukka.
The Director of Programmes at the Franklin Junior Foundation, David Ofogba, said the organisation was pleased to partner with Okonkwo on the initiative and provide healthcare and medical support to residents.
The Enugu State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mrs Ugochi Madueke, also commended Rachael Okonkwo for using her platform to give back to society, describing her as a worthy daughter and ambassador of Enugu State.
The success of the 2026 edition once again highlights the humanitarian side of the Nkoli Nwa Nsukka Mega Carnival, which has grown beyond entertainment into an annual platform for community support, empowerment and giving.
From free medical care to food donations, school supplies and assistance for vulnerable families, Season 8 brought together entertainment and humanitarian service in a celebration focused on putting smiles on the faces of residents of Nsukka and beyond.
The Nkoli Mega Carnival continues to demonstrate how entertainment personalities can use their influence to create meaningful social impact in their communities.
